ZICO Coconut Water: A natural sports drink

October 24, 2012 |

Coconut water has naturally high potassium content, contains antioxidants and unique chemical composition of sugars, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and phyto-hormones (see PDF file in the link The Chemical Composition and Biological Properties of Coconut Water). For this good reason, coconut water is often considered as a natural alternative to popular sports drinks filled with artificial colors, artificial sweeteners and preservatives. Many of the sports drinks are NOT even  true electrolytes: to replenish your daily potassium you would have to drink 6 to 10 gallons of Gatorade or Great Value Sports Drink. Could you?

In contrast, a small size bottle (14 fl oz) of ZICO Premium Coconut Water contains 20% of potassium RDI so that five bottles of ZICO (only ½ gallon) will give you 100% of daily potassium along with magnesium, sodium, calcium, phosphorus and iron. Even less ONE Coconut Water ($1 container) you need to drink to get the same amount of potassium. Make your pick!

Obviously, ZICO coconut water with dark chocolate flavor doesn’t undermine your health with questionable food additives (you do not see red segments in the diagram!) DDFI = 0/11 = 0 and a descent nutritional value of DDNF = 11/7 ~ 1.6 is what you get to help balance and strengthen your homeostasis. One of the ingredients, coconut cream is very similar to coconut milk but contains less water. Natural coconut water  also contains cytokinins which promote plant cell division and growth. However, marketing claims promising miraculous health benefits of coconut water are largely unfounded.

Bottom line. Yes, you can enjoy both ZICO and ONE Coconut Water natural sports drinks without fear! As always, it is good to keep in mind that no beverage should be taken regularly as pure water replacement. Hydrate Yourself Straight!

Can you review this product? It is Coconut Wave calorie free soda and you can get it at Wal-Mart. I want to see all the health risks associated with this product.

hmm I became sensitive to the taste of plastic in store bought bottles of water in the past year or so and I was disappointed to find that I could also taste the packaging of this product, both the bottle and the carton
